The Disc mill can be used for fine grinding of soft to hard materials with a Mohs hardness of up to 8.

Operating behavior & mechanical features

The crushing & milling process in the Disc mill takes place between two coarsely toothed grinding discs. One grinding disc is stationary, while the other is rotated by a gear motor, applying a shearing force to the material to be ground. The gap between the two grinding discs determines the fineness of the ground material. The axial position of the rotating grinding disc can be changed using an adjustment wheel. The position is recorded by a sensor and can be read in the app as the gap width. If the grinding discs are worn, the gap can be corrected to “0 mm” using the app by means of a zero point adjustment. With regular zero point adjustment, the gap width between the two grinding discs can be set reproducibly.

The ground material is collected in a glass bottle located below the grinding discs. For larger grinding quantities, the glass bottle can be replaced with an adapter piece with a hose nozzle, so that the size of the collection container can be freely selected and even continuous operation can be achieved.

The housing of the SBM is designed to swing open so that the grinding chamber can be opened for inspection/cleaning without tools. The door is monitored by a safety sensor and prevents access to the rotating grinding disc.

The innovative operating concept of the “Labco” app, which is already installed and ready to use on the supplied smartphone, offers the following features:

  • Storage of standard operating procedures (SOP) for different samples
  • Display of the gap width between the grinding discs
  • Change of the direction of rotation of the movable grinding disc
  • Access to the operating instructions
  • Direct spare parts request
  • Sample/machine data exportable via csv file
  • Updatable app and firmware

Accessories

  • Hose nozzle for replacement of the glass bottle. If the glass bottle is too small in terms of volume, the ground material can be discharged into a container of any size via the hose nozzle. To do this, simply attach a hose connected to the collection container to the hose nozzle.
  • Suction connection valve with adjustable false air valve for vacuum cleaners, for optimized suction of the grinding chamber for dust-free grinding.
  • Grinding discs available in many materials, including cast steel, zirconium oxide, tungsten carbide
